Gargantua slowly rose from the bed and turned to face Doctor Osman. Rachael had been too busy to see him start to move. By the time she did it was too late.
Frozen with fear she dropped the sensor unit to the floor, breaking the delicate instrument. Briefly, making eye contact with the gorilla. Rachael raised her arms up and gripped the steel bars behind her. She saw something in his eyes that she didn’t want to see again. Her own reflection and something else. Something impossible for an animal.
Perhaps Wonder Woman was correct. There should be security in the lab. Funny thing, Rachael thought, about recriminations how they are 100 percent correct after the fact.
Doctor Osman slowly surveyed the cell. Hoping to find something she could use a weapon or shield if need be. Just outside her peripheral vision, Rachael noticed a mass over the air vent. Gargantua had clogged the cell’s air vent with his food. No wonder he was conscious. He had ingested none of the narcotics. But why clog the vent? And why now? Even in a moment of terror, Rachael looked for answers. She guessed he was cold, didn’t like the air flow, whatever… and used the only thing he had convenient to clog the system.
Perhaps if she slowly moved to the door. She could get out. If he wasn’t sedated… he could have moved at anytime she reasoned. Doctor Osman slowly brought her hand to her side and started rooting in her pocket. She pulled the keycard from her lab coat but dare not take her eyes from the beast. She wouldn’t look him directly in the eyes. Rachael could not bear to see that vision again. Just look in his general direction she thought.
As Rachael started to move her leg; Gargantua lunged forward.
